City of Buffalo Awards Web Development Contract to Algonquin Studios

Local Firm Chosen to Lead e-Government Initiative

Buffalo, NY, February 15, 2001 -- Algonquin Studios, a leading Buffalo-based provider of web design and Internet commerce solutions, has been awarded a contract by the City of Buffalo's Management Information Systems Department to design and implement a new web site for the City.

One of the first steps in the Mayor's recently announced e-Government Initiative is to make city government more responsive to its residents. Algonquin will design a City web site that engages the community, providing residents and businesses easy access to city services. Residents will soon be able pay parking tickets, the garbage user fee, as well as many other city permits and licenses online.

Algonquin Studios and the City of Buffalo will work together to develop the City web site to provide residents greater access to government, while lowering the costs of doing business for the City. Algonquin will meet with commissioners from each City department to better understand how the web site can improve customer service. A committee will also be formed to advise the City on the look and feel of the new web initiative. The site will be designed with all users in mind, developing a site that is attractive, useable and accessible.

The City web site will use Algonquin's Content Management System to separate the look and feel of the site from the content. The Content Management System will allow the City to maintain the web site in-house in a timely and cost-effective manner. Delegated content authoring will allow staff members from each city department to make changes appropriate to their section of the new web site through an easy-to-use web interface.
