Paradyne

Paradyne called upon Algonquin Studios to assist in the development of an extensive series of multilingual PDFs. The project required Algonquin Studios to manage the translation, review and final layout of nine technical datasheets created in QuarkXpress, translate them into Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Korean, Japanese, and French and deliver them in PDF format.

Algonquin Studios used its multilingual localization workflow software, Transmerge, extensively to streamline and manage the overall project. Transmerge provided a repository for all of Paradyne's original English text as well as a vehicle to assign and track the translation and edit assignments. Algonquin Studios was able to monitor the completion of those assignments and assign the review to Paradyne's in-country reviewers for final approval through Transmerge. Transmerge allowed a host of participants from a diverse set of geographic locations to access a single, centralized web-based application in which they conducted their translations and reviews. The Transmerge system served to completely streamline not only the translation process, but the production process as a whole.

Transmerge allowed Paradyne to reap significant savings and benefit from consistency of translation across outputs through the use of its leveraging functionality. For every technical datasheet, Transmerge compared source text against archived context and, in the event of successful matches, reused previous translations. Not only did this amount to significant cost savings for Paradyne, but it also guaranteed translation consistency across all of Paradyne's technical datasheets.

English data sheet A snippet from an original data sheet in English. Localization requires more than translation, since sometimes text can balloon in size. Each new language version underwent minor design changes as well.

German data sheet Translated into German. Switching from American 8.5" by 11" paper to International A4 required some minor changes in layout.

Japanese data sheet Translated into Japanese.

Korean data sheet Translated into Korean. Minor layout differences can be seen in the bullets.
